The digital alarm clock blared. The Princess clambered over Dave, reaching up onto the dresser to shut it off. "Good morning!" she said to him. "Sleep OK?"
Dave felt groggy, but delighted to find himself waking up in the same bed as the Princess. A smile slashed across his face. "Mmm, yes," he said. He slid his arms around her and they kissed.
As they dressed, images of the woman in the corner blasted into Dave's brain. He said "Something strange happened last night."
The Princess laughed. "Oh?" she asked.
"Yes. I think I saw something strange."
"Oh!" The Princess changed her tone, from sarcasm to surprise. "Did you see Alyson?"
"Um," Dave stumbled, "I don't know. Maybe."
"Was she looking out of the window, or sitting in a chair reading?"
"Looking out of the window." said Dave.
"That's Alyson," said the Princess. "She's our ghost."
"Really," said Dave. "Then I wasn't dreaming."
"Oh, no, not at all. I've seen her many times. She's definitely real."
"But," Dave stammered, "I don't believe in ghosts."
The Princess laughed, her voice trilling musically. "Well, you'd better start!" she proclaimed.
