Both of these inside my favorite,
Family Mart, which
has developed an interesting corporate arrangement -- note
the little Muji
section to the left of that internet-enabled ATM, in the lower shot.
The upper image is an example of the extensive refridgerated
section, featuring sushi, salads (mmm, with corn kernals),
onigiri rice balls (which are really triangles), etc.
For more konbini info, the special Time (Asia edition)
on Japan had an informative
article
with a 7-11 focus (and a stupid picture), and I had a little
more to say about the Family Mart in my
trip report from '99.
