Whoever Gets 1000 Points Wins
In the city where people played games with
a passion most Americans reserve for televised sports, 4 noted
individuals dueled for possession of a solid gold Icehouse set.
The 23 widely publicized Zarcana matches were held in a coffeehouse
downtown. I hear the winner developed back trouble after carrying
the set around in her rucksack.

Dave
Kevin Kline appears in "Wild Wild West"
as both the President of the USA and his identical stand-in,
but I liked him better when he played those roles in this presidential
tale from 1993.

One Giant Leap for Us |
On
July 20, 1969, America achieved the goal of visiting the moon,
after a decade of planning and preparation.
On July 20, 1999, we took a giant step forward of our own,
and soon we too shall achieve a goal we've been toiling away
at for more than a decade. Here's what we did: we pushed a large
check across a table, towards the president of a plastic manufacturer,
and told him to build us a 3 cavity mold for making injection-molded
plastic Icehouse pieces.
Yes, you heard me right. Icehouse pieces are go. They say
it will take about 6 weeks to build the mold, plus a couple of
extra weeks to actually make the 120,000 pyramids in our initial
run. This means we'll have pieces in hand around the end of September.
And suddenly, after like 10 years in pre-production, we're
actually having to decide exactly how we're going to package
and market these game pieces. But since this is something we've
been working towards since the late '80s, we've already got the
design hammered out. For those who can't wait until September
to see what the new sets will be like, I've posted a design memo
describing exactly what you'll find under
the hood of the new icehouse sets.

- For
her birthday, Kristin
got a Furby. These were last year's big xmas hit, but I've never
actually spent any time with one until now. I have to say, I'm
impressed by it.. it's a very well designed product. Everyone
agreed it was cooler than expected.

- Meanwhile,
mad scientists in New York are working on a device that could,
theoretically, destroy
the world. Aren't there any superheroes around to prevent
stuff like this?
