| Purpose |
For nearly 100 years, City of Hope has been independent medical and research institution that treats people who have cancer and other serious illnesses, not simply the symptoms and the disease. They strive to treat the whole patient with respect, honor, humanity and understanding. They have a patient-centered philosophy which guides everything they do and they say compassion drives their innovation. Their overriding mission is to heal the whole person, which means nurturing the emotional, spiritual, social, as well as physical well-being of those in their care.
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has designated City of Hope a Comprehensive Cancer Center - the highest level of recognition bestowed by the NCI. City of Hope is one of just a handful of elite institutions nationwide to receive this prestigious honor. City of Hope is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
City of Hope has several great publications such as HopeCONNECTION, a bimonthly newsletter for friends and supporters of City of Hope, Hope Notes, a monthly newsletter with practical patient information, announcements about upcoming patient workshops and clinical trials, and features personal writings from patients, families and friends, and eHope, a monthly e-newsletter about the latest research, treatment and community events.
