I'm playing a game of go on my
PDA while waiting in a barber shop. A 70's song by Three Degrees
plays in the background: "Are we in love or just friends?
When will I see you again?"
macarize (mack'-uh-rize) v.t.
to pronounce happy or blessed. from Greek
makar happy, blessed [see also macarism n. joy
in another's happiness]
- Planet of the Apes (2001) :|
Like Batman -- great sets,
bad plots, and promised sequels.
Damn them all to Hell!
Sorry,
no review... Daddy-O is on the road again.

- "First off, I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times,
but you rock. I'm in the University of Oregon Gaming Club, where
Chrononauts and Fluxx are played to the point of obsession. It's
a game that easy to learn, highly addictive, and in parts completely
hilarious. Thank you so much for all the hours and hours of fun!

We're at Gen-Con! |
|
Well,
I'm not sure when this page will actually push... I've been having
some trouble with Kristin's laptop, and I know I lost some email
messages on Wednesday night due to my quotas being exceeded by
the latest email-propagated virus. But nonetheless, as I write
this it is Thursday morning, just before booth-opening time on
the first day of Gen-Con, and although we've been working way
too hard for way too long and still just barely made our deadlines,
we are here, everything's set up and ready, and we're expecting
to have a spectacular show. To help you imagine our booth, here
are some pre-departure photos of the new backdrop and oversized
Chrononauts box that Landru built for us. |
The
giant Chrononauts box is totally cool... we've got it mounted
on top of a rotating xmas tree stand (thanks again, Leah &
Frank -- that thing is so useful!) so that the box spins slowly
in the air above our sales counter. You can see it from across
the exhibit hall as soon as you enter the room. It's great! |
Anyway,
Kristin and Alison are already down at the booth, getting ready
to open for business, so I've got to get down there to help them.
Bye! |

Marlene's
father was on his way home from Korea when he suffered a cerebral
hemorrhage and was found unconscious. He passed away today at
a hospital in California. As some of her closest friends, we
wish we could be home to help comfort her in these difficult
times. |

Writing a set of game rules is really very much
like writing a software module. In both cases you are creating
a set of instructions that must be clear and concise, as short
and efficient as possible while also addressing all cases and
possibilities. I find that streamlining a set of rules draws
on the same skills as debugging a piece of code. (So if you want
to be a game designer when you grow up, be sure you study computer
programming.) |
|
Among gamers one often hears the term "rules
lawyer", which makes me wonder: do lawyers make good game
designers, or at least, good rulesmiths? How does writing a set
of game rules compare to writing a contract? |
