"Well, just to let you know, I am a fan of your games...
We enjoyed them so much that we gave our copy of Nanofictionary
to our son's school gifted teacher for his enjoyment. He came
home from class today, where they played it, and they all loved
it there! Look forward to seeing more on the classroom
ideas section, though I don't really know how much more "classroom
friendly" they could be. They are well designed, and pretty
obvious for their subject areas. I'm just spreading the word
in my small corner of the world." -- Mary

ICE-7 Promo Card Packs |
|
This
week finds me hard at work on making promo
cards. As part of last year's run of promo cards, I created
a little IceTowers
reference card, with the Capping -> Mining -> Splitting
diagram on one side, and an overview of the rules on the other.
We handed these out at the summer trade shows, and this card
proved so popular and useful (particularly during giant
IceTowers games) that I immediately began thinking about reference
cards for other Icehouse
games. But it wasn't until now, when we are getting ready to
print promo cards again for the summer trade shows, that I would
have an opportunity to print any more such cards, so this project
has been evolving slowly.
This week, however, it suddenly sped up. Having made now a
total of 7 reference cards for Icehouse games, we had a vision
for how to make use of them: package them Fluxx
Blanxx-style and make them available, FREE, with the purchase
of a stash of Icehouse
pyramids.
Yes, that's right, free. The idea here is to regard these
cards not as a product, but as an advertisement, and therefore
to distribute them as widely as possible. And with Tic
Tac Doh! in the set, the package will include a game you
can play with just 1 stash, meaning you can buy a single-stash
and go home with a complete game.
The other games I've made reference cards for are: Zendo,
Homeworlds,
Martian
Chess, Volcano,
and the original game of Icehouse
(this last task being an update of the now-ancient handy
Icehouse rules reference). Along with front and back cover
cards (which provide basic info on the pyramids and a plug for
our website), the package will also include a 10th card, featuring
info on Scoring
with Pyramids and a chart describing another 13 games you
can play with pyramids.
Needless to say, we're excited about this project and hope
to send it to the printers soon. And once we have them, we'll
be tossing them around like crazy.
What do you think of the name ICE-7, by the way? It's what
we're using right now, but there's still time to change to something
else if we can come up with something better. Anybody got any
suggestions?
